Heather Willey is a Licensed Independent Social Worker through the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapy Board. Heather graduated from the Ohio State University with her Master of Social Work, after completing her Bachelor’s degree at Miami University, with a focus on the sociological impacts of crime and deviance.
Heather spent the beginning of her career at a local mental health agency, working as both a foster care clinician as well as an outpatient therapist for home and community-based services. During this time, she worked with children, adults, and families, utilizing a wrap-around approach with the belief that problems both affect and are affected by many aspects of a person’s life. This approach involves a focus on interpersonal relationships, physical health, and support systems, among other things, in an effort to improve emotional health.
At Nemeth Counseling and Consultation, Heather works as an Outpatient Therapist, providing mental health services for adolescents and adults, both individually and within the family unit. She also contributes to the Couples Program, working to help couples achieve satisfaction in their relationships. Heather also leads an annual Wellness Group geared towards refreshing habits in five areas of wellness. Her treatment approaches are guided by the methods of Reality Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (in addition to Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), Strengths-based approaches, Motivational Interviewing, EMDR Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy. Her approach often contains a combination of methods that suits the needs of the client, and she highly values client feedback.
Heather places a large emphasis on the importance of stability and satisfaction in important core relationships and works to help each client strengthen these relationships, while simultaneously working through personal emotional health issues. She enjoys actively listening to client's life situations and helping guide them to discover their own solutions and potential, and she believes that self-determination is vital to success. She remains goal-oriented throughout therapy and helps clients meet these goals by utilizing their own strengths and support systems. She offers a warm and honest personality as well as an empathetic and supportive environment, while thinking 'outside the box' and offering creative ways to seek solutions and find meaning in life.
