Kate is a Licensed Social Worker and Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor who works with men and women with mental health and addiction diagnoses. She began her educational career in 2009, graduating from Columbus State Community College with an Associate Degree in Addiction Studies. Continuing her education she pursued her Bachelors of Social Work through Mount Vernon Nazarene University in 2014 and she then pursued her Masters of Social Work, graduating in 2016.
In 2011, Kate began her career working with adults experiencing mental health and addiction concerns at CompDrug, inc. With a primary focus on trauma-informed care, women’s issues and addiction during motherhood/pregnancy she developed a passion for supporting individuals grow and heal from addiction in individual therapy and group settings. In 2017, Kate began working for a re-entry center as an Intensive Outpatient Counselor serving and supporting incarcerated women as they re-enter the community.
In 2015, Kate became a Certified Daring Way Facilitator, incorporating Breńe Brown’s evidence-based approach into her daily encounters with the people she serves. She integrates the Daring Way and Rising Strong concepts each day to best support her clients’ mental and emotional growth through self-compassion, empathy, shame resilience, vulnerability and wholehearted living.
While using multiple evidence-based treatment approaches, Kate has a specific passion for treating survivors of trauma experiences while utilizing EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) in order to heal from and process trauma.
She also enjoys working with individuals struggling with the different variations of grief and loss, depression, anxiety, Bipolar disorders and other mental health concerns, relationship issues, parenting, identity development, work stress/burnout and addiction.
Currently, Kate has spent a year and a half in private practice where she finds that an authentic and trusting relationship with her clients is a primary focus to assist in the healing process. Through active listening, exploration of values, examining how our experiences impact and create themes in our lives Kate strives to collaborate with the people she is working alongside of to improve their quality of life, develop connections with others and with our inner selves.
