Katherine (Katie) Vlachos is a Licensed Social Worker through the state of Ohio, as well as in Pennsylvania where she relocated from in 2020. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Human Development & Family Studies from Penn State in 2005 and her Master of Social Work with a Behavioral Health Specialization from Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania in 2009.
The extent of Katie's work over the course of her educational and professional experience has been in the Behavioral health field working primarily with children and adolescents both with mental health and developmental disorders, particularly Autism. She also acted as lead Behavioral specialist in Special Education classrooms, developing and implementing behavioral plans, and building communication and social skills programs using Applied Behavior Analysis for students. Prior to moving to Ohio recently, Katie had started her own small, part-time cake business for dogs as she loves to bake also.
Katie takes a trauma-informed, multi-modal approach to counseling and often utilizes Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy, Play Therapy, and Family Therapy with clients. Not only does Katie have an extensive background working with children and families but she also has broad experience with adults both in partial hospitalization settings and with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Katie's focus therapeutically is to create a safe therapeutic environment in which to explore emotions and behavior patterns, address & challenge negative thoughts, and set manageable goals with everyday behaviors and activities that can impact our short and long term health and happiness. Katie has worked with clients who are living with anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, ADH/D, parenting challenges, Autism, Developmental & Intellectual disabilities, and oppositional defiance disorder.
Many clients report that Katie brings a calm, non-judgmental presence to their sessions. She focuses on building trust and rapport with families and clients, using active listening and goal setting to assist with managing presenting stressors and building healthy coping skills.
